Wild Country Variable Controller

The Variable Controller (VC) is a classic all round belay device. The VC is primarily designed for Trad climbing and is able to deal well with thin ropes during belaying and abseiling. The VC’s wedge shaped design enables it to be used in two performance modes, giving more stopping power or less friction depending on circumstance. In its high friction mode the VC imitates a 'flat-plate' when the rope is forced into a tighter loop with more contact against the plate making more friction for safest belaying on thin ropes or abseiling on thinner ropes. In its low friction, slick belaying mode the VC imitates a 'deep-plate' whereby the rope is fed into the device at a steeper angle and with less contact and therefore less friction for fast belaying on thin ropes or easier belaying and abseiling on fatter ropes. The VC is most suited for ropes from 9mm to 11mm and can be used for trad and indoor climbing. Available in a variety of colours.
